Showerheads are among the most important elements of this setup. But the most problematic thing out there is the fact that installing a rain shower head is very difficult. Here in this blog, we will tell you how you can accomplish the task of installing a Rainshower head.

Before we tell you how to install a Rainshower head, here is some of the basic information you need to know before understanding the process.

What is rain shower head?

Most probably, you have seen showerheads, but rain shower heads are somewhat different than the normal ones. Rainshower heads are known by different names, such as downpour shower heads, rainfall showers, and overhead showers. This showerhead is amazing in providing a swift and gentle water stream without applying uncomfortable pressure on your head. It can also help you to gain a wonderful experience similar to getting wet in the rain while you shower. If you are a big fan of rain, then showering with the rain shower head is probably the best thing you want to end your day after a busy day at work.

Rain Shower Heads can easily disperse more water than a normal shower. But on the other hand, it will never dissipate water at a very high speed.

There are two basic Rain showerheads. The first one out there is wall-mounted & the other one will be ceiling mounted. Irrespective of what you choose, both of them can provide you with similar water output.

All these showerheads come with special Chrome or metal materials shower pipes that are strong enough to support water flow at high speed. Some of them also are made up of plastic, but if you want a classy-looking, durable material, then this might not be the best choice to use. These days you can even get options to easily brush these rain showerheads and apply your favourite external coating as required. This will help you to enhance the esthetics of your bathroom.

How to remove the old showerhead?

It doesn't matter which rain shower head style you choose for installation; you will have to remove the older showerhead. Now sometimes people get confused and think it to be very hard work to do. But we won't suggest you waste your money in hiring someone just to open the old showerhead.

Here are some simple steps to open the showerhead.

  1. The main head portion can be easily opened with your hands. It is not tightly fixed in most cases. All you need is to rotate it in an anti-clock direction. If you are unable to rotate it, then it might be stuck due to rust and other such factors. In this situation, you will need to apply some force with a gripping tool such as a wench.
  2. The next section is the arm of the shower. The rain shower heads usually have a long arm as compared to the others. You will have to rotate it clockwise to remove the installation.
  3. Next, you will have to carefully see the hole and confirm it has a drop ear elbow installed, all supported with a cross brace. If not, then you will have to get it installed as the rain shower heads need such support.
  4. Next, you will have to apply the plumber's tape on the threads so as to protect your screw. Wrap it 2-3 times so as to provide a good base for the next shower head you will install.

How to proceed with the installation?

All the steps mentioned above can help you to get a proper platform and a good base that can make the installation easier for you.

If you don't perform the above-given steps, then there is a high possibility that your shower head won't stay stable. Further, due to the disruption and the water force, it can also come out, which is not what you want while you shower.

Next, we will tell you all about how to install your wall-mounted shower head.

  • Always remember to slide the flange before you try fixing the main shower pipe or, basically, the trim rim that is going to cover the hole in the wall. Next, you will have to fix the pipe in the drop ear. Rotate it clockwise and try fixing it tightly with the help of a snug. Once you are done with installing the pipe, never forget to cross-check for any possible leakage; if there is water leaking from the pipe, you will need to reopen your fit and try re-setting according to the threads.
  • In the final step, you will have to take the Shower Head and attach it with the pipe you have fixed. You can easily do it with hand fixing or can use a wrench. Remember to remove all the extra plumber tape at last. People also polish to get the shiny surface.
  • You must turn the water on and try to see if there is a leak or not. If there is no leak from the joint, then relax as you have successfully installed your shower.

Ceiling Rainshower head

If you want a more realistic experience of rain in your bathroom, then ceiling rain shower heads are always preferred. But on the other hand, installing such shower heads can be very problematic. We only suggest you install such a showerhead if you are renovating the complete bathroom or if there is a project related to construction going on in your bathroom. Installing a ceiling rain shower head includes a lot of construction and processes such as tile removal and drilling. So be sure to face such problems before you try installing a ceiling rain shower head.

Below we have mentioned how exactly to install a ceiling rain shower head.

  • The first step in installing such a showerhead would be making the accessibility of water via your pipes in the bathroom. You will have to extend the pipes in such a way that the water output is at an angle of 90 degrees from the ceiling.
  • Next, when the pipe is done, then you can easily try using a drop ear.
  • You will have to remove all the keys without disturbing the drop ear. When it comes to shower valves, you always have an option to operate with a wrench to get the best result. This can help you to take off the fitting very easily. Next, remove the pipe followed by the drop ear.

There are a number of good and flexible pipes available out there in the markets which can help you with long-lasting service with your rainwater shower head. Choose accordingly and try selecting the best. You must understand that these pipes will be going inside your sealing and will have to bear the pressure out there. If you select a low-grade pipe, it can cause seepage.

  • The shower valves have a special connection rim called a crimp ring. This is the most traditional connecting rim present out there. You can connect any shower pipe with this connection. Once you insert the pipe inside the rim, try securing it tight enough to avoid any leakage.
  • To ensure the crimp ring is fixed tightly, there are special gauges available. These gauges have a go and a no go-side. To ensure that the no side is not in contact with the ring.
  • Further, start with your drilling to get the main pipes inside. If you are going to use a false base over the ceiling, then be sure to locate the centre and start drilling accordingly.
  • Wrap the plumber tapes around the shower wall to make the fitting tight.
  • If you are using extra plate support, then you might drill through the top plate and pass the pipe to the level of the valve. Once it has reached the level, you can fix the valve and try securing the joint.
  • Cut the pipe when there is a need to bend it to carry forward. Further, all you need is to join the pipes after making the bend and, on the other hand, secure the water leakage.
  • Extend the pipe over your head till the section you want the final attachment to be done. If you have already reached your point, you can fix the pipe with basic support.
  • You might need a driller in the next section as we will be securing an ear elbow at the end to make the attachment.
  • You can always use special pipe clams at places to secure the position of the pipes at places.
  • In the final steps, you will connect the shower pipe similarly as we did in the wall-mounted style. Try fixing it hard at 90 degrees. Once done, you can cross-check your entire system now. If there is a leak, then fix it at this point. Once you lock all the clamps, it becomes very hard to open them up.
  • At last, attach your rain shower head with your hand by rotating it and fixing it in.

If there is no leak and the water output is even, then it's done. Don't forget to remove the extra tapes from the outer portion.

Following the above steps, you can easily install a rain shower head at your home to get the beautiful experience of rainwater anytime you want in your bathroom. We hope this article helped you out to get the best idea about rain showerheads and how to install them. Installing these doesn't require special plumping skills, and if you follow the above steps precisely, you can easily install them in your bathroom.
